How to choose a gift

Choosing a gift is one of the most painful events sometimes, if you want to give that some thing really special to the special person. What if they have the product already, what if they do not like it. The best way to get out of it is to give gift vouchers. But if it is someone really close to the heart, then vouchers wont suffice and cakes,flowers are too common a gift for such a special person.

In such a case, it is best to consult/ask the person directly. The most preferred way is to ask a month or two before that special event/date when you want the gift delivered. But given the pace of our lives, we do not have that freedom to pre-plan events.In such a case, some innovative gifts might be the order of the day. For example, you can try our surprise magic show or a surprise visit from a clown.

non business general update

Last two weeks were too occupying for us at wishengifts.com.
We have moved to a new hosting provider, internationally reputed godaddy.com for any one who want to start an e commerce business, suggestion is choose your vendor very carefully.

This month we saw a subdued number of orders, may be the recession is playing hard with those NRIs who otherwise would love to send gifts to their loved ones in India.

As expected, mother’s day is not a big event in India yet and the media is trying hard to make it one. We are sure that it will be big soon.

Our ranking in Google improved a lot with consistent efforts and now we are in top15 search results, this is having significant increase in the traffic and we expect the number of orders also increase going forward.

Hyderabad is waiting anxiously to know the election results and after two days we will know (hopefully) who will be heading the government in the state and centre.

Latest happenings are :

opening of another multiplex and shopping mall at banjara hills by the big shot GVK. It is called GVK One and seems to be the largest multiplex in town. The multiplex is run by Inox movies. This complex has the second Shoppers stop out let for Hyderabadis.

TMC, the biggest electronic showroom in Hyderabad has felicitated the maestro AR Rahman for his contribution and achievements.

Last Sunday, the city became host of a great event where more than 1.5 lakh people gathered to render the Annamacharya Keerthanas and made an entry into the Guinness Book of Records.

concluding, I wish we get a government who keep the welfare of people as their motto and run the government effectively like Mr.Modi,Mrs.Sheela Dikshit and Mr Nitish Kumar (top 3 chief ministers according to India Today Rankings).

The week gone by : 20-26 Apr

SEO activity is going good and we are seeing the results in terms of ranking and the increase in traffic to our website.

We have included new gifts in the wedding anniversary section and seen good response from our customers.

The new category Mother’s Day Gifts (May 10th is the day) is added - Being an Indian do we need to follow the western culture of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day.

I think there is nothing wrong in celebrating these occasions but we should not end up remembering our parents only on those days. We respect them always, we will be with them all the time but on these special occasions we can show our love by sending some thing they will like and will cherish.

During the last week the % of our ontime deliveries is 100% again and we will try our best to continue this track record in the coming days, months and years also.

What’s happening out side of my world?

In Hyderabad, election fever is gone and surprisingly power cuts also become less (it used to be the reverse earlier. Till the elections you get every thing after elections you get nothing)

School going kids are on their high energy levels as the holidays are started and there are many summer camps organised for them like in Ramoji film City , GachiBowli etc

Akshaya Tritiya (27th April) saw huge crowds on all jewellery out lets and my family become poorer by 7K INR in the anticipation of prosperity in future.

The Indian Job market is sending shivers across the IT employees with the every day estimates of job losses increasing, recent estimate says 1lakh job cuts by September this year, what a blow to a country which wants be an economic super power!!!

The Indian stock markets as usual are behaving like a woman and showing up and down every other day but believers in the long term can surely create wealth here. Recent report by Elliot Wave consulting from US says Indian benchmark index reaches 100000 in 15 years,a 10 fold jump from the present levels.

We have started the SEO activities couple of weeks ago and the last week saw high activity in terms of SEO
Link submission in many free on line directories, changing the titles of all web pages , meta tags and sending the mailers to many Telugu people living abroad.
We have to improve our web ranking and requested all our friends and loyal customers for their ideas in this regard. We wish will soon present in the top 10 google results.

We have added new gifts to our wedding gifts section , Birthday gifts section and we will start the MidNight delivery gifts in next two weeks.

Last week, we have delivered 100% orders on time and we are very happy that we have lived up to our promise. We hope this will bring us the repeated customers.

Updates from the small part of the world where I live:

Coming to the world outside, we have seen the 1st phase of elections’09 on 16th April and both the partners of www.Wishesngifts.com have exercised their vote.
The elections in Telangana and north Coastal region have seen very good percentage of poling, over 67%.

My wish list out of this election is BJP govt at centre and any non-congress govt in AP.

I expect that BJP with clean record of governance and development can set the direction and take forward the nation in all aspects. Last 5 years all Indians have felt the absence of government, anybody with a gun/bomb can come, kill whomever he want ant any place of India. Economy is at the worst possible situation (Given the true potential of India), Infrastructure development has taken a back seat.

And I strongly think the outcome will be very close to our expectation. The huge turnout of voters indicates that they want change and the Telangana demand will help the Mahakutami in Telangana region.

Slowly the job losses have reached Hyderabad also. One of the top most Indian IT company has laid off around 4000 people, I am unable to imagine how tough life with all these loans and commitments?? I wonder why did they recruit more people than required in the first place!! And the conclusion I get is these guys are no wiser than a common man who cannot expect where the world is going in next 6months or 1 year. There is only one man who expected this long before: its none other than Oracle of Ohama, Warren Buffet the great.

A glimpse of Indian wedding

The wedding season here again ( I have already received invitations for 4 weddings this season) and almost 20-30% of Indian household is occupied with marriage activities either in their family or in their relatives or friends.

Historically, marriages in India are seen as a union of two families (extended families also in some cases) and not between two individuals (though this is changing off late)

The parents decide that its time to get their ward (son/daughter) get married and start looking for suitable match… the search includes conventional channels like relatives, friends and the latest channels Matrimonial websites (www.bharatmatrimony.com and www.shaadi.com), news paper ads. There will be 2-3 meetings between the families before giving the final nod.

Off late the percentage of love marriages is increasing and the acceptance of the love marriages also growing up (courtesy- the increasing financial independence of both the bride and groom).

The wedding rituals are elaborate and in some affluent families (wish I become one) goes on for 3-4 days (including the Sangeet on day before wedding, wedding ceremony at bride’s place followed by a grand reception at the groom’s place)

Celebrations will be colourful, loud and even the friends of the grand parents of the couple also present to have fun and bless the couple.

Some seasons see more than 10,000 marriages in a city like Hyderabad on auspicious days like Basant Panchami.

Party gifts for all Occassions

Last week has been tremendous in terms of new gift uploads. We introduced a new gift category for parties “Party Gifts”.

This section contains gift packs for small parties at home. Yes, you guessed it right - how can a party in Hyderabad /Secunderabad be complete without having a biryani item in it? Our party packs offer biryani hampers with coke to our customers and their well wishers. We were thinking of including Biryani’s from all the famous houses in Hyderabad but we later dropped Bawarchi & Astoria for quality & neatness respectively. we finalised on Paradise (primary location for sourcing) and Hyderabad House (secondary location)as our choice. We hope our customers like it.

Coming to Biryani, it is one topic which is filled with emotional content for all including us. We had many memorable moments at Bawarchi during our college days. Now we have shifted our loyalty to Paradise though. On a second thought, more than the biryani it was the nawabi attitude of Hyderabadi’s which was quite interesting to me, in fact sometimes I feel chilly on the road at the traffic signals when the same attitude makes hyderabadi’s feel as if there is nothing and they cross the signals, break them, create a mess and then finally scold the poor uncle who was innocently following the traffic signal. Though, me myself being a hyderabadi for the last 20 years, seeing the city grow as it has - I wonder if Chaos theory is right in our case. Where you will see an order in the chaos surrounding you, where you feel its the right way even when it is wrong and where nothing is of significance …Yahan pe Sab chalta hai anna …. and where there is no relevance to the word “Why” or more famously pronounced as “KAIKOO”….All in all this is Hyderabad with some sweet pan added after all the masale wala khana…

Election fever is catching up the twin cities of Hyderabad and secunderabad.. yesterday (5th April) there was a 5K walk ..(yeah not run) on the necklace road ..this event was conducted to promote the Voting duties of Indian citizens.. and I wish atleast this election brings the best leaders into the Assembly and Parliament.

There was a tourism fair for two days by Eenadu at Old Airport and one big news for me is new BigBazaar is opened at Tarnaka… (at least one entrepreneur is fighting the recession with all he ahs ..that is Kishore Biyani)..its a big news for me because I own Pantaloon shares and like the way Mr.Biyani conducts the business…the Indian way…
